Early in my working life (1970’s) I worked for a company based in Scotland with a branch just outside London. I had frequent need to travel South and always used a sleeper in preference to flying.

Caught the train around 10pm, arrived London around 7am (to a nice cup of tea) and time for breakfast before the train out to work. Compared with a 5am rise for the first Shuttle (as was) then a rush from Heathrow in and out of London for work with only a BA greasy sausage for breakfast it was moderately civilised. I’d guess it’d still beats flying the morning cattle truck.
