Topping up my bus pass

#232471

Postby wheypat » June 28th, 2019, 9:00 am

I'm working in Edinburgh and I catch the bus - my company makes me get a ticket every day so I've bought a single journey pass. Last week I queued up to top it up - long queue in the travel shop at waverly. 4 or 5 people in front of me is a stunning blonde (think playboy model) all by her self. Beind the counter everyone is working, bar "Dave" who is leaning on a filing cabinet. The queue shuffles forward and the model makes it to the front.

Dave spings into action - opens a new till at the speed of light and says next please. She asks for a 7 day ticket as that's how long she's in town for.

Does Dave get her a ticket? No, Dave attempts to seduce her. "So, you're in Edinburgh for a week are you . . . . .do you need someone to show you round? Perhaps I can show you the best pubs? Maybe take you to a great restaurant?" She's polite but keeps saying (or words to this effect) "Just give me my ruddy ticket". Eventually Dave relents and sells her a bus pass. She leaves.

I'm at the front of the queue. Dave looks at me and stands up and walks away.

I'm shocked.
Never mind "Dave". What is a bus company doing in this day and age, flogging tickets for which you have to queue and deal with a slow human? What's wrong with selling them on the bus, or through a machine, or online, or through an app?

Most bus companies now take contactless payment on the bus, where you can probably buy a multi-journey ticket or a weekly or a season.

Sadly not Lothian. It's correct change only - or single journey passes or a mobil app - but my company won't let me claim for app bought tickets

Time for your company to come up to date, methinks.

Would they let you claim for parking paid for by contactless means? That seems to have become the norm down here. Likewise bridge and toll charges

In this generous land, I have a free bus pass being a poor pensioner. Takes me for free anywhere I like in Scotland. We do not have bridge nor road tolls (and although it does not affect me) free prescriptions.

As for Dave, well he needs a boot up his behind.
