A few things that bug me

#627443

People that walk two or three abreast on the pavement and expect you to walk in the road or the mud rather make way for you to pass in the opposite direction.

People that stand right in front of train doors when waiting to get on at the station, rather than move to one side to let people off first.

People that listen to music/podcasts out loud on their mobile phones on trains and buses rather than invest as little as a few pounds to get some earpods and actually consider that not everyone wants to listen to Taylor Swift.

Trying to get a sick note after a major mental health crisis so that I don't have to go back to work until I feel ready and in the interim am paid at least SSP rather than being considered AWOL and getting no money whatsoever, to be told by my Psychiatrist that it is the responsibility of my GP, to then be told by my GP that it is the responsibility of my company's Occupational Health and then to be told by my company that it is the responsibility of my Psychiatrist meaning I simply can't get one.

That's one that happened to me once, the owner actually tutted at me as though it was me that had no manners, so good reminder. It particularly hacked me off because despite my age and modest infirmity I still consider myself some way up the social food chain from a sodding chihuahua.

In a similar vein, parents that expect you to get out of the way of their kids. When I was growing up my mother would have made me move, never another adult.

There is something about owning a dog that turns people into selfish inconsiderate oafs. It is not that they are otherwise self-absorbed people. They just think their hound is more important than humans and act accordingly.

So if their dog bites you, its owner will blame you for agitating the dog in some way.

Dog owners who wear brown leather shoes are the worst.

Snap!

In my case a gaggle of gossiping dog owners in the middle of a path in a public park who obviously thought it was beneath them to consider making way when a member of the public had the audacity to walk on the path where they were, rather than wade through muddy grass. As I walked through and past them one actually had the cheek to complain that I "Should have gone around".

I told her where she could consider "going around"!

What is it with some dog owners? They seem to think a human without a dog is a subhuman.

Now that I think about it, there may be a few other things that bug me...

Dogs are unnatural aberrations. I guess that wears off on some owners.

Fair enough. I have nothing against folks who keep their hound on a lead at all times. Nor the gay guys near me who carry their pooch everywhere in a puppy bag.

But I have been bitten by dogs twice. My fault, obviously. :?

That does depend upon the colour of the suit they are wearing, there is nothing wrong with brown leather shoes in the correct context. (My horror is white socks when not playing tennis)

Maybe it's just the area I live in but white socks are one thing, white socks with those stupid flip flop things that seem to have become quite fashionable are another.

Oh - as a dog owner for decades -I agree with your general point about dogs not under control.

The first day I turned up to start a postman's job, my sorter looked me up and down, congratulated me on wearing strong boots, and said "if you need to kick a dog, do so - hard. You are not paid to be assaulted by out of control dogs".

I used to deliver to one house which had a dog that would almost take my fingers off when i posted mail through the flap. I quickly learned after a couple of days of just about keeping my digits. So the next few days I took a very firm grip on the mail, and teased the front of the letters through the flap. Bang on cue the dog assaulted the mail and pulled the envelope. I kept hold of the other end. the mail tore in half and I deposited the remains through the flap. Eventually the dog mysteriously never appeared at the front door again.

I'll tell you another thing that bugs me. People not just holding their hands up and saying 'yes, I admit it. I screwed up'

And it's all though daily life. Up here we have a politician who racked up 11k on a work ipad because he watched live football whilst on a foreign holiday on an out of date SIM card. At first he tried to weasel his way out of repaying the money, then he refused to say what he was doing on it. Today its come out he was watching football. If that's the case, then why not say 'yep. Sorry. It was the fitba. I LOVE watching fitba. Here's the 11k. I am sorry but I screwed up. It will not happen again'

I'd have been the first to say 'well done' if he had. Instead he had to be slippery. But you'd expect that from a politician these days.

And today, we had a report on a youth riding an electric pushbike through an Aberdeen shopping centre at speed.

'I didn't realise it was a motorcycle'
'I didn't realise I needed licence, insurance, tax and MOT etc'
'I didn't realise you weren't allowed to ride motorcycles through shopping centres'

Why not 'Yep, I screwed up. I'm only 19 and boys will be boys. I know that a 60mph bicycle is illegal because I have (or used to have) a car licence. I'm very very sorry'

And every week without fail, some boozed up thug beats the living daylight out of someone, or grabs a female in a nightclub or gets in and drives a car somewhere....... and EVERY week they say either:

1. I have been on medication since <insert relative> died.
2. I have mental health issues and stopped taking my medication on Friday morning, so I could get leathered on Friday night.
3. I have no recollection of the matter.

...or a combination of the above.

No doubt lawyers are trying for some sort of mitigation angle.....but they should stop doing that. It's getting tiresome.

Not one says 'Yep, I hold my hands up. I had a few too many bevvys and had been acting like a fanny for most of the night. I am sorry. So very sorry. But I realise I have to be punished.

We really need to get the likes Judge Dredd or Robocop out there. Summary justice. That's the way forward.

Here's another one.

A runner hopped in a car for part of a marathon. She was caught.

Zakrzewski claimed she told officials she used a car and finished the race "in a non-competitive way".

"The claimant had collected the trophy at the end of the race, something which she should have not done if she was completing the race on a non-competitive basis," said an independent disciplinary panel.

"She also did not seek to return the trophy in the week following the race.

"Even if she was suffering from brain fog on the day of the race, she had a week following the race to realise her actions and return the trophy, which she did not do.

'Brain fog'. Aye right.

....And she still had the brain fog when she boasted about her race afterwards on social media.

I doubt there is even mitigation available. So they are rubbish lawyers who aren't saying "ooo, I slipped up, my bad" as well!

Probably derail here...

https://community.giffgaff.com/d/122343 ... ball-match (usual caveats apply)
" 450MB for 90 minute match."

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/p ... r-AA1k2yRg
"Information published by the Scottish Scottish Parliament revealed that in one session on January 2, a total of 3.18GB of data was used, costing £7,345.689. Speaking about the data usage, Mr Mathson said: “The simple truth is they watched football matches.”

So they watched circa seven football matches in a day ?

The data used would depend on the quality of the stream. I don't think trying to debunk the latest explanation could make it any worse for him.

Unless of course he was watching porn, and has thrown his kids under the bus...

Not trying to debunk. Trying to get a handle on it really.

Aye - but that's a LOT of porn - 10.5 hours or whatever ?

notwithstanding data speeds etc understood.

It's a lot of anything! How would it look in terms of data-intensive gaming?

One other possibility: if the system was upgrading itself (perhaps without his knowledge if he's non-techie), a big upgrade could be multiple gigabytes. That could help account for one day's usage being so extreme. And it might not even be his fault: being a work device, his settings might very well be under the control of a sysop!
