I think I have seen that but forgot. Nonsense Latin of course and just needs looking at carefully.

'spose you all know this classic of the same ilk..

Un petit d'un petit
S'étonne aux Halles
Un petit d'un petit
Ah! degrés te fallent
Indolent qui ne sort cesse
Indolent qui ne se mène
Qu'importe un petit d'un petit
Tout Gai de Reguennes.

There's a whole book of similar N'Heures Souris Rames which I've got,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%27Heures_Souris_Rames

Going back to the bench, I think it's a knock-off of one down south - Oxford or somewhere like that? Oxford would fit.

Yes - my wife found a reference to a similar (but not identical) inscription on a (reputedly) Oxford bench.

Here's a variant with slightly different wording.....

'Ore stabit fortis arare placet ore stat' inscription on bench at Rollright Stones, Cotswold Hill, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire border, UK
https://www.alamy.com/ore-stabit-fortis ... 44745.html

(I can read them both ;))

In the middle of Shrewsbury's historical centre is the former home of the chap who invented flouride toothpaste.

It's about the only one without a blue plaque outside.
