Live train maps

Postby AleisterCrowley » June 27th, 2017, 3:52 pm

Hours of fun for us trainspotters - found this site recently.
Not sure how complete it is, but apparently it takes "real-time train information from Network Rail using their Real-Time Data Feeds system"
http://www.opentraintimes.com/maps
Type in a few station letter and it should find the station - then show map
Here's Reading;
http://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/sign ... #T_RDNGSTN
The trains are shown as headcodes (eg 1W31) - if you click on them it will show the planned and actual arrive/depart/passing times
(If you then click on a station it'll show arrivals and departures)
Green is platforms and I assume the black blocks are track sections controlled by a signal

Potentially useful - but very static. There's a map based equivalent feed here:

https://traintimes.org.uk/map/#bhm

It's a bit limited when compared to the same thing for the London Underground network, showing every train in real time. It can be quite mesmerising!

https://traintimes.org.uk/map/tube/

You can sometimes spot a few 'rogue' trains that are not on any track!

Static? It updates without being refreshed as far as I can see - but at that scale trains dont move that fast!

Well, not in Blighty. For a bit more excitement, check the more developed countries in Europe and Asia. ;)

Pah! Class 43 (HST) - a fine bit of work, one of the fastest diesel locos in the world, still...

How do you get the hyperlink to work?
