Is it something topical requiring some kind of subject knowledge? An example right now might be something deriving from football.

Re: Sequence
Correct answer UncleEbenezer and 9873210, the answer is 7.
For anyone-else who hasn't worked it out yet, why is it 7?

Really!?! I wasn't trying to imply you got the puzzle from Only Connect, just that it's the sort of thing that comes up in it.
I'm a bit surprised that anyone reading this board not only didn't know of it but isn't an avid fan! It's widely reckoned to be the most difficult, as in cryptic, quiz show on TV. Mondays on BBC2 at 8pm, or watch one on iPlayer to see what it's all about.

Re: Sequence
There are only 10 million distinct 7-digit sequences. There are significant more numbers in use. There are over 100,000,000 distinct published books. There's a reasonable chance it's the letter count of the words in opening line of one of them Much higher if you include poems, bible verse and such. Let alone things like phone numbers, ID numbers, post-codes (in some countries they are numeric), grid-references or part numbers.
This type of question is a shibboleth for people being part of the same community.
I know nothing about this "Only Connect". I gave an answer based on personal salience. If Sequence #2 is my account number I'm filing a police report.
