Has anyone else notice that Amazon have made the daft decision to remove from their emails the names of the items you have ordered, and their full delivery addresses "in the interest of security".

All you get by email is reference numbers and bits of addresses. So I won't be able to search my back emails for items I've ordered, and multiple orders could get confused.

I rather feel that Amazon have jumped the shark. They've got to the position where the development team can't make it better, so they are making it worse. They've already changed the review system so you only get a few UK reviews before they switch to Foreign ones, written in Foreign, and now you have no idea what you've bought or what will arrive on any particular day.

I do hate companies that send out content free emails "your bill can now be seen on our website", and Amazon seem to be joining their number.

To some extent regulation has encouraged companies to reduce the amount of details sent in emails, because it's not secure.

Given that this is TLF, many here will have got emails saying "something has happened, log in to get details". I get one every time I get a dividend.

Email is NOT secure. It NEVER has been. NEVER send passwords or private stuff by email, unless you and who you send to use encryption (ie PGP).

I'm sure that you know that, but what of companies publishing your address and who you deal with? Ok Amazon don't, but if they send those emails they might as well do so!

I repeat, email is not secure. It's plain text (unless someone encrypts it), passed through many hands. Any "man in the middle" can read it.

Are you with google? Apparently if Amazon use google (or have done the same work since last year) it may be less of an issue provided you use gmail or someone who has adopted very recent email extensions.

My most recent order (on 3 July) included the full product name, and a partial delivery address (sufficient for me to know which address is was going to).

So far at least I'm not seeing the changes you describe......

If you have logged on to Amazon recently using your browser (to order stuff) it will show what you have ordered. Don't log on if the link asks you to, I wouldn't.
No need to search emails.

When I buy something I want a receipt in my hand, not balkanised on range of websites, with inferior search and at the whim of a company that might delete it at any time. I've just bought a new monitor and value the ability to search for all monitors I've bought for 20 years. I want to own my own data.

This started for me a month ago, I thought it was an IT glitch, not IT idocy.

On Urbandreamer's logic all emails should just be single line URLs forcing you to log in to see anything

A few years ago I was idly looking through my browser history and I saw a link to an amazon web page.

Wondering what it was (I couldn't remember), I clicked it. With no further clicking of any sort, a page that came up thanked me for ordering a cordless mouse by One Click. I then remembered ordering one of these about a year previously.

Sure enough next morning, my second new cordless mouse arrived in the post.

So beware of clicking on amazon entries in your browser histories!
