The whole idea that posters on here actually believe what Musk says on Twitter any more is amusing...

Posters plural?

Tesla might be the one company when 'buy when there's blood on the streets' might be both too literal and bad advice.

Buying when there is blood on the streets is never easy.

If the whole market has crashed it is easier than if one business has crashed as one never knows if the company will recover.

Equally buying at new all time highs can be problematic:
Is the share about to run or crash?

Buying what was a quality business because it has sold off can be a way to the poor house.

If investing was easy many more folk would have done well from equities rather than the relatively small number that do.

Interestingly although this board is infested with nay sayers, Tesla equity has been very good to me whereas the nay sayers seem to be mostly words only & not short sellers who have been badly hurt the last few months.

A safe-technology advocacy group issued claimed on Tuesday that Tesla’s full self-driving software represents a potentially lethal threat to child pedestrians, the latest in a series of claims and investigations into the technology to hit the world’s leading electric carmaker.

According to a safety test conducted by the Dawn Project, the latest version of Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software repeatedly hit a stationary, child-sized mannequin in its path. The claims that the technology apparently has trouble recognizing children form part of an ad campaign urging the public to pressure Congress to ban Tesla’s auto-driving technology.

In several tests, a professional test driver found that the software – released in June – failed to detect the child-sized figure at an average speed of 25mph and the car then hit the mannequin. The Dawn Project’s founder, Dan O’Dowd, called the results “deeply disturbing.”

The Dawn project:

https://dawnproject.com

is all about Dan O’Dowd statements that he has created:

the world’s leading expert in creating software that never fails and can’t be hacked. Dan created the secure operating systems for projects including Boeing’s 787s, Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Fighter Jets, the Boeing B1-B Intercontinental Nuclear Bomber, and NASA’s Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle.

Apparently he is capable of creating software that never fails and can't be hacked.

He has been a relentless critic of Tesla and other folk who haven't employed him to write their own software and the latest stunt over FSD not being able to see children follows in a long line of critical comments about software written by other folk.

It is all about emotions.

Does the person being driven by the car feel better than when doing the drive themselves?

For some people the answer is no, but for many people the answer is yes.

Changing how you feel is a life changing experience.

Yes, but if you happen to be one of the 10 people or one of your loved ones is, who are seriously injured or killed each day on uk roads, then life outside the car might not be as good.

The optimists view is that AI will become the drivers of the future & the appalling losses on the roads will be substantially reduced.

Regards,

I think it's an inevitability, it's just a case of when and how. My guess is that what we will end up with is an integrated networked road system where, unless you are off the beaten-track, individual vehicles will be traffic-managed in order to make the optimal use of time and energy. I suspect there's a lot to be gained there. Quite possibly there will be an app for journey booking, so that you get charged more for quicker journeys or peak time travel and vice-versa. If heavy goods vehicles were given separate time\journey slots then they could use the transport system in isolation from more vulnerable passenger vehicles separating vehicles with different levels of mass and consequent risk to life when circumstances cause an accident. But all of this requires more than individual vehicle autonomy which seems to be a much harder nut to crack without roads designed or upgraded for them.

Maybe long term, but for the short term I expect it will be more & more improvements in AI till the politicians decide it is so much better than humans that they will allow increasing road use prices till only AI cars are viable for economic use. We are already seeing cars priced out of cities & I imagine this will be extended with ai driven cars so much cheaper than human ones that no one will want to self drive anymore.

There will be all manner of civil rights objections, but I think the economics of ai will win out.

Tesla do not run over children (strong language at the end)(10 minutes):

https://youtu.be/Fu4ZEnIwYZI

This all reminds me of using spark igniters to make GM pickups turn into fireballs after a crash. That back fired & this attempt to say that Tesla run over kids looks to be self shooting the promotor of these ideas in the foot with a machine gun.
