If correct, this Farage interview with Bill Browder is a very good advert for not investing in Russia (12 mins 27 seconds):

Re: Investing in Russia
Have you read Red Notice by Bill Browder. It's a great read and led to me reading more widely on the situation in Russia. I don't invest in Russia as it is gambling at a rigged table.

No, haven't read Red Notice, but I know several Russian people and I have read some tomes on the Stalin era and consider myself lucky not to have been there during that time nor would I want to invest in Russia.

Re: Investing in Russia
I've done business there and although I know Russians here and there I don't think I learned much of Russia from direct experience. I probably just didn't get enough.
I do feel inclined to suggest an impulse buy as it's very accessible and compelling reading:

Re: Investing in Russia
There are tons of great investment opportunities in Russia! The Russian economy is booming, and the country is becoming an increasingly important player on the global stage. The Russian market is diversified and has a lot to offer investors, including a strong manufacturing sector, a growing services sector, and a rich natural resources base.
Investing in Russia can be risky, but it can also be very rewarding. Make sure to do your homework before investing in any country, and always consult with a qualified financial advisor. But if you're looking for an exciting investment opportunity with lots of potential upsides, Russia is definitely worth considering!

Re: Investing in Russia
I hold the JPM Russian Securities fund (JRS) which, I have to say, although well off its recent peak has done pretty well in the year that I've owned it.. and bucking the trend from the disappointing performance of my other emerging market funds. Russia CAPE ratio is about 10-11 and the JRS fund has a nice dividend.
TBH I have no idea what's in the fund, I just like it as a alternative value play.
