You know in that clip where he said he sold his Tesla shares because he wanted to invest in another car company? Any idea what he bought?

APTERA, a maker of 3 wheel cars as far as I know.

Howard wrote:CleanTechnica have released their estimates for BEV sales in Germany. They estimate that Tesla sold 5,445 Model 3 cars in Q1.

That suggests that Tesla sales in March were only just over 3,000 cars.

VW BEV models are unsurprisingly selling well.

Tesla's share of the BEV market in Europe appears to be dropping again as more popular BEVs are available.

Will a delay in the German plant be a problem? At the moment the California and Chinese plant can easily meet European demand.

In March:

Tesla sold 3,699 Model 3's, 2 Model S's and 2 Model X's.

VW sold 708 e-trons, 96 etron GT's, 409 Taycans, 594 Citigos, 6 Enyaqs, 2260 ID.3's, 872 ID.4's, and 3599 e-UP's for a total of 8544 pureblood BEV's.

ETA: Total BEV sales were were 30,101 so 28.4% of those were VW's compared to 12.3% Tesla

But this is a quarter month, for the quarter I'm seeing:

Tesla: 6074 (9.4%)

VW: 19,564 (30%)

Where are your figures coming from and for what nations?

The March European sales I have for Tesla are:

https://carsalesbase.com/europe-tesla/

23,881

Meanwhile in the US an estimate of what they sold:

https://carsalesbase.com/us-tesla/

66,000/3 = 22,000. This site no longer breaks out monthly sales for Tesla, only giving quarterly.

In China they sold:

https://thedriven.io/2021/04/12/tesla-s ... -in-china/

70,000 in the first quarter, if equally divided = 70,000/3 = 23,000 in March.

If these rates of sale remain static then expect per year that Tesla will sell: 12x(23,881+22,000+23,000) = 826,000

One should remember that the re-vamped S & X are not currently being sold and the Y has not reached everywhere and new factories in Germany and US are not yet producing.

Total 1st quarter Tesla European sales according to:

https://carsalesbase.com/europe-tesla/

were 1697+5523+23881 = 31,101

If the German Tesla sales figures for the 1st quarter quoted by BobbyD are correct at 6,074, then Germany represents

6074/31301 = 19.4% of Tesla's European market sales.

ID3 European sales 2021 Q1:

https://carsalesbase.com/europe-volkswagen-id3/

2909 + 3937 + 5137 = 11,983

ID3 European sales 2021 Q1:

https://carsalesbase.com/europe-volkswagen-id4/

336 + 481 + 4728 = 5545

Total ID3 + 1D4 = 17,528

Tesla model 3:

https://carsalesbase.com/europe-tesla-model-3/

1458 + 5344 + 23,507 = 30,309

Tesla model 3 in Europe is outselling VW (ID3+ID4) by 30,309/17,528 = 1.73x

This is with no current Tesla European production.

But this is heavily skewed by all the sales to VW staff etc at the end of 2020. The sales of ID3 and ID4 are not doing so well in 2021 compared to the Tesla model 3.

No Ody, it's heavily skewed by the sale of 13 different BEV models.

VW has staked its future on the ID3 and ID4 platform.

The data shows that these two platforms are not selling well. Sure one can hide such failure by citing sales of other obsolete models, likely at heavy discounts but the problem for Diess is the ID3 and ID4 sales.
