Australian Thread

Hi Fools
Wanted to start an Aussie thread for all things Aussie. Lots of things to talk about.

    Super
    ASX listings
    Economy
    Aussie Investments
    Tax
    Share Tipping Services
    Frozen UK pensions
    Expat stuff
    Aussie Fool

etc

In want of our own board, simply change the reply title of your post to what you are discussing, eg instead of replying to 'Re: Australian Thread' you can delete that title and put something else in like 'Best Super Funds' or 'CBA Dividend'.

Cheers

Nipped down to Big W and now that my two eldest are out in the world of work, I've bought them a copy of Barefoot Investor https://barefootinvestor.com
Seems like it is written in plain-speak which is a must for the young 'uns.
I don't know if I will end up a subscriber to his share tipping service, but it can't be any worse than some of the other services (cough cough) being promoted by certain companies in Australia.

So glad I've started to read this. It forced me to do so financial house-cleaning. Made a nice little saving today of around $1500 on changing life insurance from standard policies to Super held cover. :D

Just opened positions in three Vanguard ETFs today.

Majority in VHY but also in VGAD and VTS.

Decent spread of risk in there.

Residential Property Valuations

Residential Property Valuations in Australia are out of control. No doubt there is a bubble. I know this because when politicians and real estate agents and bankers tell you that it isn't a bubble but something else, then you know it's a bubble.

Anyway instead of old wooly head dealing with the problem, he pours petrol on the fire by, wait for it.....

Suggesting younger workers can raid their Pension funds to pay for deposits for houses (because property id so expensive)

For goodness sake

#1. It will increase house prices even more
#2. It will create a pension back hole down the line.

Just let the crash happen and we'll deal with it.

Hi - AUS based investor trading the FTSE

Hi guys, I'm based in Melbourne but I trade the FTSE. I've been investing for around 4 years now since my Dad passed away in the UK and left me a share portfolio which I am building up a lot. I'm concentrating on Buy and Hold, High Yield, with the intention of living off dividends in retirement without drawing down too much on capital. Hopefully my strategy pans out OK. I've made some mistakes already but nothing too disastrous!

Looking forward to learning loads on this forum.
