Are there any tried-and-tested ways to optimise the timing of changing allocation in the market?
As I get older I’m moving towards more passive holdings and shifting my geographic allocation – but I’m struggling to ‘pull the trigger’ and make the cahnges. Should I do it all in one go or make small changes?
Although I can find plenty to read about timing the entry of funds into the market, and plenty about the right time to exit the market, there doesn’t seem to be any useful info about making a shift of holdings.

I do not believe that there are any effective methods of timing entry or exit from the market. If you want to change your allocations, and your present allocations still make sense, I would make the changes slowly. That way, you will not make any big mistakes.

I would go along with Geoff and just gradually make any moves when you think the time is right, but you cannot time the market so you will probably wrong as often as you are right. Even if it takes a year or so it does not really matter.

Maybe worth reading all of the long thread that has been discussing this:

I was thinking more in terms of making changes over several years. It is best to use cash in flows and out flows to make changes, if you can.

Re: Strategies to change allocation in the market
I think that the market is telling you what it thinks about your allocation method. You can either go with the momentum or be a contrarian.
My experience has been that the contrarian often wins.
