Gadge GIP - what is it?

The Gadge Global Income Portfolio (GIP) is an example portfolio of mostly Investment Trusts. The holdings are spread globally and designed to be diverse in their nature. The intention of GIP is mainly to provide a growing income but we are also targeting capital growth too so overall portfolio return is important too.

The portfolio was started in 2016 with £100,000 of notional capital.

Dividends earned are tracked and reinvested annual during the Christmas review.

GIP is intended to be a low effort portfolio, conservatively invested.

Holdings range from UK blue Chips paying great dividends, Small Companies in the Far East, Corporate Bonds, Renewable Energy, Commercial Property, etc. It is roughly 80% Risk Assets (stocks, property, etc) and 20% Low-Risk Fixed Interest Assets (Bonds,

We are tracking our performance against inflation itself, a very conservative Investment Trust known as Personal Assets or PNL (to see how we perform in a down market) and Vanguard Life Strategy 80/20 which is roughly what we are doing but a bit more heavy on equities so should outperform us in a growth stock market.

During 2018, we also added two new benchmarks:

1) A 50/50 barbell portfolio invested in the aggressive Scottish Mortgage and the defensive Personal Assets. The idea is to balance this back to 50/50 annually.

2) 100% Invested in Scottish Mortgage which should outperform us in a growth stock market environment.

Disclaimer - Although GIP is a notional (not real money) portfolio, Gadge does hold almost all GIP investments using real money in his family's ISA and SIPP investments in real life.
