Back to WOW.
As history repeats dead people make the best investors. They can't interrupt compounding and they can't be as dumb as a rock and fool themselves for an entire lifetime.Killing yourself to be a good investor is a bit drastic, sitting on your hands to stop you doing anything stupid is a better choice.

Like all companies nobody buys shares in them. They have fewer shareholders now than they did when I sold out. The 2009 annual report is the last report I got before I bought back in.I think they had around 490,000 shareholders then.Looking at last year's annual report ( on my knee now) they have 374,000 shareholders now.Everybody drifts to index funds etc. The funds own most of the shares in Australian companies now.In 2009 the largest shareholders are exactly the same as today,HSBC and JP Morgan.

H had 15.9% of the shares back then and have 23.62% of the shares now. JP 12% of the shares then and 16% now.
Patient people that understand compounding have reduced as they join in with the popular delusions. In 2009 132,600 people held between 1000 and 5000 shares, today 105,000 have between 1000 and 5000 shares.
After that it falls off a cliff, people that had to spend a bit more money and have 5000 to 10,000 shares number 10,000 people..Falls off a cliff again, that very few people that spent a bit more money and waited number just under 5,000.They have 10,000 to 100,000.

And again.

Every year they choose to compound stupidity and get more fanatical in their denialism.Every year the herd fool themselves WOW are greedy, the shareholders are greedy. Why doesn't the gubmint make them reduce prices.Every year WOW tells them that net profit is between 2.5 % and 3%.They keep $3 of every $100 spent there and create employment for who knows how many people.

Every day of every year the never ending supply of fools contradict themselves. They make huge profits ( so why don't you buy shares in them you clown).Every year the clown denies reality and denies that the clown is the very small owner of that company, the clown is the greedy shareholder.

No wonder I never stop laughing at them.

For the clowns that haven't got a clue what compounding is and deny it every day of their lives WOW has had a CAGR of 14.5% for 30 - 31 years.Check it my mental arithmetic ability is declining.

Using Berkshire as a check ( BRK ) then over 32 ish years BRK has turned US$8,500 into $500K roughly..

Spending $8,500 K on CBA in 1991 got you 1400 shares ( just over, roughly right always wins).Reinvesting dividends you have 8,000 shares now, probably just over .

Pay attention Newroad, this is where it gets complicated
A X B = C. So 8,000 X $100 = $800K.Complicated isn't it .

If we invite the big guns of stupidity in and write it in italics then Buffett suffers from ,survivorship bias, confirmation bias and luck.Thankfully I also suffer from that.

Buffett will continue with a concentrated portfolio of BRK shares. I will continue with a concentrated portfolio that is 41% CBA shares. We are both too old now to realise we will never be as wise or clever as the herd are.

Err... I reckon most people around here do understand "compounding". So I'm not entirely clear what point you think you are making.

And surely, diversity and compounding are not entirely exclusive of one another?

Personally, I do tend to the "less is more" philosophy when it comes to investing. At least, in principle! :)

Indeed, XFool.

However, were I the OP, I would instead focus on basic arithmetic and specifically, where the number "two" fits into the Hindu-Arabic numeral system.

We could progress from there, though I'm not hopeful :(

This thread is over 4 years old. Surely what needs to be said must have been said by now?

I think it is generated using a very early version of chatGPT. Nonetheless, it does have entertainment value.

Yeah? But are there not many threads on TLF of which the same could be said?

I am looking forward to an update.

Reality arrives a week early this period, how did the echo chamber on fantasy world go for the last 6 months.Still compounding stupidity? Still believe everything the salesman tells you? Still getting more fanatical in the denialism field?. Still the wonderful self delusion? The answer of course is YES!!!!

A 10 year old is needed for the complicated maths, you know A X B = C.The 10 year olds can laugh at the "adults" in the room just as much as I do.

Have we worked out how many stocks a 2 stock portfolio would have? I would think not. Here we go with reality

So you've picked up this year's shares in MQG ( ASX) using the DRP ( google it) and now have a total of 1260.

So 1260 X $180.56 ( the share price )= ?, use the 10 year old for a bit of coaching there .There are no more shares in MQG arriving until the first week of July next year.

CBA ( ASX ) more shares come at the end of March next year to complete the financial year ending 30/6/24.

CBA 1282 X $110.50 ( the share price) the 10 year old should solve that for you .Don't forget to ask the 10 year old how many ticker symbols there are.Just a wild guess but somewhere in the region of 2 perhaps?

Round numbers $369K,round numbers up $39K in 6 months.Round numbers up £21K for the six months.Round numbers £3500 a month increase in wealth. Well on track for the 12% CAGR that is great for 25 years, and leads to $3 million

Off you go back to fantasy world and I might be back in July to extract the P .

Isn't the insanity hilarious !!!!

And yet on another thread you have described how your portfolio has more than 2 stocks. Maybe you should pose an easier question?

Warning, A=A bound to confuse. 1 share portfolio, CSP1 for total slime for brains morons, 6 year return 141%, CAGR 15.8%, lower vol, more diworsification. Buggrit.

Off sailing. Do you care? does he care? Nobody cares and everyone gets it wrong.
