London Fields

#206618

Postby cinelli » March 9th, 2019, 11:11 am

Has anyone read the Martin Amis book London Fields? I bought it in 2006, read the first 30 pages, then gave up. I have recently had another go and again have read 30 pages. I am ready to be convinced that it is worth while progressing.

Yes, I read the first few chapters and gave up, but went back to it a few years later ,started again and really got into it. It's probably one of my favourite Amis Jr books

Thanks. I'll have another go. That's quite a coincidence that we both gave up, then later went back to it.

It's a bit of an acquired taste I guess. Lots of 'unreliable narrator' stuff, and is the absent Mark Asprey actually Martin Amis?
Keith Talent is a wonderful character, likewise the ghastly child Marmaduke.

I read this when it was first released and I remember mildly enjoying it. I also read a further two of his books that I didn't enjoy.

I thought it was funny.
