I picked up his book East West Street some time ago about the development of international law and how it was applied at the Nuremberg Trials just after the Second World War. As he was investigating the background, he came across some very interesting family history and the son of a NAZI war criminal who had been involved in the deaths of some of his family.
The author has just published a follow up tracing the life and background of the NAZI war criminal. Quite fascinating to the extent that I found it almost unputdownable. I should now go back to the earlier book which provides a good background to the latest one.
I can strongly recommend both for anyone interested in this subject.

Also a winner of the Baillie Gifford prize for non-fiction. They seem to be excellent spotters of talent, in more than one sphere it seems

Re: Philippe Sands
Slightly off subject but Baillie Gifford are a most interesting set up. I think the only unlimited partnership business in the UK, probably the biggest and/or the best fund managers in the UK and big sponsors of many arts projects including the Edinburgh Book Festival (alas not this year!) and as MaraMan has noted generous sponsors of individual author prizes.
