I have been struggling through Nights of Plague by Orhan Pamuk. It is set in the dying days of the Ottoman Empire on the fictional island of Mingheria set between Cyprus and Crete in the eastern Mediterranean. It is like all of his books, beautifully written, but is a very long and occasionally obscure book about how the island survived a disastrous plague in 1901. Has anyone else read it?
Pamuk's books can make for a good read. I have read and enjoyed some of his earlier ones but this one at 683 pages can be hard going at times. Or maybe I am just not enough of a reader of fiction.
