I've long been interested in enhanced vision\smart glasses, Google Glass v1 was a bit of a miss IMO but Intel's version is much more interesting I think.

UPDATE: In April 2018, Intel ceased development on the Vaunt smart glasses project.

If you want enhanced sensory input, this TED talk describes a real system, originally designed to fill in sensory deprivation like deafness or blindness, it is also being tested for additional sensory input (from infra red, invisible light, twitter feed to stock market data feeds):
