Astounded -- coriolis effect

I happened to look up the Coriolis Effect on Wikipedia and was amazed to see that the majority of the article is complete nonsense:
https://wiki.tfes.org/The_Coriolis_Effect
Then doing some further digging I was astounded to find that the effect seems to be thought to apply to ballistics and that until recently there have even been military gunner's tables to correct for it!! It seems to be one thing that flat-earthers are justifiably sceptical of:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_force
Honestly, Newton died some 300 years ago. Do people still not understand the basics?
While I'm here, does anyone have a link that explains properly the effect which causes low air pressure weather systems to circulate counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere?
