  • Born on 28th April 1888
  • Orphaned at 9 years old
  • Signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 1909
  • Joined in the British Army in 1914
  • Sent to hospital with shell shock in 1915 before returning to action in September 1916
  • Saw action in the Battle of the Somme & Ypres
  • Promoted to Lieutenant in 1917
  • Killed in action 1918
  • Recommended for The Military Cross for bravery.
Walter has lent his name to a street in the town where he was born.

Walter Tull was the Army’s first black officer to command white troops.

The 2008 film of his life is showing on Drama TV tonight (Oct 30th) at 9pm, (10pm Drama+), Drama TV is channel 20 on Freeview, Sky 143. Drama+ I think is about 73/74 or so, on Freeview.

I've watched it already, but probably will again.
