We didn't replace our cotton sheets, but still avoid ironing :-)

Do you mean duvet or duvet cover? I never iron sheets or duvet covers. (When my duvet needs to be washed - usually at the end of winter when changing to a summer weight - I take it to our local laundry otherwise the weight when wet might do damage to a domestic washing machine)

The last time I used silk sheets it was like sleeping on an ice rink.

Duvet cover. (When the duvet needs to be washed, we take it to a laundry that claims to know what they're doing. Didn't stop them messing up however!)

I hope you forgave them.

Naturally. Which is why we've continued using the same laundry. They don't mess up now.

I have a new washing machine (the old one died - after just short of 14 years service). New one was delivered day before yesterday.

It has a duvet programme. One I have yet to try! I'd never have thought of running a duvet through the wash. Synthetic sleeping bag yes, but not feather-and-down, nor duvet.

Does it really work?

I guess it will work but I would not use it as I think that a duvet is just too much for a domestic washer. Anyway a duvet itself does not need to be washed more often than once a year (if that!)

hi,
i am from Australia. i have also ordered for super king sized bed and sheet sets through online shopping for my bedding, and have faced this problem initially. I use a rotary drier and drape.

Used to send the sheets and duvet covers (Super King) to the laundry but not since lockdown. So got a Singer steam press, which makes very easy work of ironing the sheets and duvet covers.

As far as fitted sheets are concerned you can place the sheet on the bed unironed and then iron the thing in situ. It works.

Surely you should ask the butler, he would normally deal directly with the house keeper who is in turn, responsible for the house maids. As you will know, there is an accepted protocol in these matters.

Unless of course, you are already the under butler yourself then you can ask the house maids yourself.

We have a very useful lifestyle concierge service for these sorts of things. If it's something the housekeeper is unable to handle the concierge service will organise someone to deal with this for you. Why not check if you have a similar service locally.

Its no different to having someone handle the laundry for you.

I follow the Bob Monkhouse method.

I donate the dirty bedding to a local charity shop, and then a couple of days later I go nd buy it back, washed and ironed, for a fiver.

Paul

(actually we do 2 washes including matress cover, and in winter dry draped over an airer in the spare room with a desk fan whirring away.

I put all pillow cases, duvet cover and fitted sheet in the washing machine. I have a 7kg machine, I assume that if it was over that then it would refuse to run as it adjusts the wash length according to the weight in the drum.

I can stick everything in Tumble drier too, tumble drier balls will stop the duvet cover from forming a damp clump and dry properly. It does help to do up a couple of buttons on the cover before washing to stop other things disappearing inside. In the summer everything just goes on the washing line

I don't iron any bedding. There's no point. Save yourself the time and energy and just fold it neatly after the drier has done its job
