I've had a couple of letters from chartered surveyors offering to claim wayleave payments from my regional electricity distributor.
Their cut would be 20%. Is this like the personal accident and PPI claimers, where I could do it myself, or is it a specialist area where I could get 80% for doing nothing, or is it even an outright scam?
I have two poles in my garden carrying power and phone wires, so it does seem plausible. The amount quoted is £150 to over £1000.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/property/art ... -land.htmlThere are two types of agreement covering utility apparatus on private land: a wayleave, with an annual payment, and an easement, which grants the right for a utility company to place apparatus in perpetuity in return for a one-off payment. Agreements ought to be registered in your deeds...

Re: Electricity Apparatus Wayleaves
I have an annual payment arrangement for a line crossing my paddock.
I just phoned the wayleave department at the distribution company when I purchased the land (Western Power for my part of the country) and they send me a cheque every Spring. No need to engage any 'middleman'.
Rate this year was £7.61 per pole (rent), and £2.30 per pole (pasture compensation) also £1.15/50 M of U/G cable (rent).
So not a huge amount but sufficient to be worth claiming.
