DAK how I disable over write mode when typing this sort of message in TLFl? It drives me round the bend and seems only to apply on the TLF website.
TIA

It sounds like you've inadvertently got 'Insert' mode enabled on your keyboard, although this wouldn't quite explain why you might just be seeing the issue on this website.
Anyway, for the sake of a quick experiment, I'd try hitting the 'Insert' key on your keyboard (usually top-left of the little group of keys above the arrow-keys), and see if that helps. You can always toggle it again if it makes no difference.
On many keyboards, there's a little 'Insert' light that lets you know when it's on, but some don't and it's quite easy to tap it by mistake and cause these sorts of over-write issues.
Cheers,

Back in the days of ASCII terminals, it was useful if you were editing a full-screen layout in a fixed width font. You could type your new characters without messing up the rest of the screen.
Haven't used it much in the last 20 years though...
