Just seen this on social media - sounds unlikely to me.

"I've been receiving nuisance calls now for the 4th day today. Watch out for numbers starting with +252 DO NOT answer or call them back because you will be charged!"


I get that calling them back may be expensive 9especially if its a premium rate line)... but being cvharged just for answering it?

I can;t find anything directly mentioning +252/domalia calls on snopes etc..

Google for "Somalia Phone calls" suggests that the scam is an attempt to get you to ring back.

But if you are using a mobile phone on roaming, isn't it the case that it can cost to receive calls?

ah - yes. But the OP didn't say that she was in eg France or Ghana with a UK mobile phone. But in that case it would be the same as receiving a call form their friend based in the UK at that time, so is nothing to do with roaming.

This sort of thing pops up on social media on a regular basis.

No matter where a call originates, it will not cost you any more to receive it, no matter what other people insist.

Crikey, I thought that this disappeared nearly 10 years ago!

Didn't the EU pass a law last year to harmonise all call charges within the EU? That's the message we all get via SMS when we use mobiles abroad.
