I've got six or seven heavy British Heart Foundation donation bags full of books I'm clearing out prior to leaving my flat
The reason I chose BHF was that they operate a collection service - there's no way I can get these bags anywhere by hand.
Just phoned them up, and the first date they can do is 26 September (!) which is no use to me as I'll have left by then..
Sooooo...are there any other 'reasonable' charities that will collect ? I know I should have checked dates with BHF first, but assumed I'd be able to organise a collection within a few days...
Obviously I will check with the alternative candidates re pickup first
I would want to Gift Aid the donations. I have gift aid accounts with BHF and Cancer Research already (who don't pick up as far as I can tell)

I'd try the Salvation army or a local hospice charity shop

The local hospices only collect furniture (yes, could ask them to make an exception)
There's a Cancer Research shop 5 mins up the road but they don't stock or accept books... (go figure)

You could try posting a request on freecycle or freegle (whichever is active in your area) along the lines of "wanted - transport for books to local charity shop".
Offer them "first dibs" on any books as a thank you and you may get somebody willing to help you out.

It's an idea, but adds yet more complication, and possibility of having to deal with unreliable flaky gits (who seem to make up an increasing percentage of the population..)
Plus, the BHF shop is 'landlocked' in a pedestrianised area of Windsor.
I thought it was going to be easy - all bagged up and ready; "Yes, we can pick up tomorrow, about 2pm ?"
"That's fine"
..and my lounge is clear
