Customs and cooler gel bag

We're flying to Naples on Friday and I'm wondering about the best way to go through customs. I have glaucoma so I'll need to be taking my eye drops in a small gell bag (the sort also used by those with diabeties). It activates with water to become a cool bag. Would I be better just putting this in my suitcase or taking it in my hand-baggage?

Unless you can get a replacement / do without, keep it in your hand luggage. If your hold luggage doesn't rejoin you at the other end you can purchase most things you need...

Get a copy of your prescription to take with you - it will act as proof of need, which you may have to demonstrate to get your medication through security. It will also help in the event that your medicine is lost whilst you are away.

I'd also contact the airline and explain your needs to them. A written (email) response would be handy to have with you when traveling.

Thanks. Good tip about taking the prescription with me--will do. The bottles are only 3 ml and 5 ml. I'll take them out just before being checked and put them in a sealed plastic bag, but also keep the cooler bag [about 16 x 16 cm] in my hand luggage. I'll put a spare dry unactivated cooler bag in my luggage just in case.

Do you actually need a chiller bag? My drops are supposed to be kept below 25 degrees and even this summer the room temperature was below that with careful shade.
