Why party political broadcasts, now?

There suddenly seems to be a rash of PPBs almost as if a general election was in the offing.

Am I missing something as to why?

Some local government - and for some places (including here in Bedford) with elected mayors - mayoral elections are coming up. I assume the parties can't ignore such things.

Labour fell apart over Corbyn.
Tories fell apart over Brexit.
Libdems crushed by coalition experience.
Even the SNP now mired in problems with their leaders.

Who's next? Is the DUP now the most functional party in parliament?

The referendum was intended to unite the Tory party.
- Dave's Post Referendum plan: "OK, Joe Public has voted to remain, you Eurosceptics can STFU now"
The reality is that the referendum has spread the Tory factionalism into the public at large.
