Wigmore, as a menu item

#210133

Browsing the menu for our local Michelin-starred eaterie (L'Ortolan) I noticed a starter -
Wigmore £14-50
Wigmore, Pear , Celery

What the heck is a 'wigmore' ? I have heard of the Wigmore hall, and also the abbey/village - but never a food

If you don't know, you're not posh enough to eat there. Away with you peasant!

(Google suggests cheese, which would fit with pear and celery)

It's a cheese.

These whole baby pears are ideal for soft cheeses like Wigmore, Brie, and Camembert.

Wigmore cheese is produced by Village Maid Cheese at the village of Risley in Berkshire and made by Anna and Andy Wigmore from ewe milk

Ah, thanks both. Makes sense - a local artisanal cheese (it's Riseley not Risley - so a few miles south of l'ortolan)
And yes, I'm not posh enough to eat there, I know my place :-)
