When is East East????

#216512

Postby eepee » April 21st, 2019, 5:39 pm

Am a bit confused!

I want to point to Astra 1 to see what reception is like.

So what is 28.2 East which is what my existing set-up is pointing to.

Is it 28.2 degrees up from East?
Or down from East??
Or up East from South?????????????????

Regards,
ep

I think 28.2 degrees from East would mean south from East since measurements are usually clockwise. But I am no expert. Does Mr Google help?

It's got to mean longitude.

It'll be the longitude of the satellite, rather than specifically from you. Though anywhere in Blighty is close enough to the meridian that the difference will be small.

I guess what I really should have asked is:-

When I come to turn the dish to 19.2 which way do I turn it (from 28.2)? More South or more East?

More West! If you face south, you need to move it from left to right by 9 degrees

I would interpret that* as: point your dish due south then swing it 28.2 degrees eastwards**.

This is the thing I use:
https://www.dishpointer.com/

Set your location, choose Astra 28.2 from the list and look where the line on the map suggests you point your dish.

Chris

**This might work for me because I live pretty much on the prime meridian!

More West if you face South!

I thought it might be like that.
Hence my wish to experiment before committing expense because I think it might end up much too near the wall without a longer bracket.

Many thanks.

Only if you live east of Minsk I think. C.
