Talk of the West

#214919

Postby NomoneyNohoney » April 14th, 2019, 3:13 am

In the late 1960s, I visited and stayed overnight at a - my memory recalls it being a nightclub - near Bristol, called, "The Talk of the West." Google can't find any record of this place, the only similar thing is a club attached to a holiday park or suchlike. Does anyone have any memory of such a place or any other information?

The only place that I can think of is the Town's Talk which is on the A38 half way between Bristol and Lulsgate Airport. It is now the Town and Country Lodge, a 3-star hotel.

The place was infamous back in the '90s for its Friday night (grab-a-granny) discos.

The first hit for a google search for ["The Talk of the West" bristol] gets someone's blog which says the Talk of the West was what is now the Arnos Manor Hotel.

Oh, well done that man! I was questioning my memory after all these years - the (previously) young lady who accompanied me there has no memory of the trip at all, whilst I still have some fond memories of the excursion. I can only put it down to her capability to forget painful experiences...

I understand it is/was commonly known as the "park 'n' ride" for reasons you might be able to imagine.
