What to do with old (real) furs
An elderly relative has died.
We have the job of clearing stuff out of her house.
During the clear out we discovered some real fir coats and other items made from fir.
I dont like the thought of this. But also I dont like to throw it out.
Any ideas what I could do with them?

There are several Vintage & Designer Fur buyers via search engines also might sell on Ebay.

Good point, thanks.
Oops about the typo; fir vs fur ... I thought it looked wrong

Local am dram societies are always on the look out for vintage clothing and are often willing to take fur.

Yes, I have just cut down a dead fir tree and my thoughts were initially of firewood and chain saws.

Wait for real fur to become seen as the natural, eco-friendly, bio-degradable alternative to the evil, ecologically disastrous, synthetic fibre-releasing, destroyer-of-wildlife fake stuff.

Re: What to do with old (real) furs
We have a few in the wardrobe, and MrsF decided that the best thing to do was wear them.
Rather like the smart leather shoes I inherited, they're not going to get better, so why waste non-renewable resources replacing something you already have?

Re: What to do with old (real) furs
maybe (?) a pragmatic point leaving aside ethical issues (though its the ultimate goal - see below!)
selling them means they go to people that want to wear real fur
this means these people wont seek brand new real fur, leading to a demand for real fur, leading to killing of animals anew for their fur.
the second hand fur thus does not create new demand, and the intiial demand for it (X years ago etc) has already been sated by the initial purchase.
Destroying/binning the furs you have wont make any difference to the animals that they originally came from, but could mean the difference to a animal in the future.
My 2p, albeit an uncomfortable suggestion for me.

What didds said.
LOL, reminds me of my student days in Berlin. Minus 20 centigrade outside, and suddenly all the girls wore fur. No matter how lefty or eco they were, this was a case of compromise or die. (Or so they told themselves.) The trick was to buy them from little old ladies who had no further use for them. I expect some of those coats are still in use.
