Re: Reusable water bottle
(a) Any supermarket plastic water bottle can and should be re-used. If you get one without a silly label, you don't even have to worry about removing that before it goes into the dishwasher or anywhere else it'll get a soak.
(b) Going a bit more upmarket, a cyclists water bottle (commonly 1 pint) is made for convenience on the move, and is something you can drink from without having to remove a top before drinking and replace before putting it away again. Also a wider neck makes refilling even easier. And a certain robustness to bounce without taking harm or denting from rough treatment like being dropped on a hard surface, and may be a little better-insulated than a supermarket bottle.
(c) Can't help with something more thermos-like if you really want to preserve temperature.

Re: Reusable water bottle
Costa Coffee (at least in my local branch) are selling stainless steel water bottles for £10.

I would not recommend this.
The reason why they are considered single use is because, once empty, they can leach.
This is particularly true if they get scratched or abraded as they might be in a dishwasher.
It is thus best to recycle them.
Why they have not changed the plastic to one that they can recommend for re-use is beyond me.

Re: Reusable water bottle
Personally, I would go Stainless Steel. While many plastics are probably ok, I can taste the plastic when drinking from some plastic bottles and beakers.

Re: Reusable water bottle
Why pay £25 for a chilli bottle when you can get the same stainless steel 0.5 litre bottle for £10 from Costa?

Re: Reusable water bottle
Is it 100% the same - ie double walled, vacuum insulated BPA* free stainless steel, leak-proof top?
I'm off to Reading later so may pop into a Costa (a rare occurrence as I don't drink coffee)
cheers
AC
* no, I have no idea what BPA is, but it's obviously 'A Bad Thing'

All I can say is that the bottle and stopper look identical to my two Chilly bottles However, I think much depends on where you purchase as there are plenty of chilly bottles on ebay at very competitive prices.

I tend to avoid eBay for branded stuff as there are so many fakes floating around. Rightly or wrongly I 'trust' Amazon a bit more -although I have had some (probably} fake Levis 501s from third party via Amazon

I've had fake stuff from the Amazon website but only when purchased from a third party.......when I buy on Amazon now I only buy stuff sold directly by Amazon.

Yes, that's what I do these days - hopefully their supply chain is fairly reliable.

I would normally trust something sold by Amazon more than something sold via Amazon. I bought some fake toothbrush heads once from an Amazon seller. By the time I found out, I noticed that that particular seller didn't have anything listed any more (so Amazon or, maybe, Trading Standards took action). I was quickly refunded by Amazon. I now buy them from a real shop in a high street or retail park.
It appears that Chilly's sell via Amazon so you should be guaranteed to get the genuine article. The same would be true of an eBay shop. My first choice would be the seller's own online shop (subject to the price not being higher): https://www.chillysbottles.com/uk/categories/bottles
Spot the sleeved earth pin on this potential death trap on the Amazon website,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Metre-Kettle-M ... way&sr=8-1
If the plug fails to comply with BS1363 in such an obvious way, what else is wrong with the lead? Are the conductors thinner than the wire in a 2A fuse? Could it catch fire? Could it arc and disrupt the big computer at The Pentagon and initiate the launch of the USA's entire [expletive deleted] of nuclear missiles, the mass explosion of which could cause a chunk to fly off of the earth so that the rest of the earth falls out of its orbit and plummets into the sun?

Re: Reusable water bottle
One of the most common fake items sold online are phone chargers. There are probably thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands already in circulation. Let's all hope our next door neighbour hasn't bought a fake one....they are a fire hazard waiting to happen.

Re: Reusable water bottle
I've bought replacement power supplies from Amazon (for a Pure DAB radio etc) sourced from a UK based company, with a CE mark etc. Made in China, but most things are...
Hopefully they are safe, but not a lot else I could do to make sure

Well, I'd like to make a small correction to your post.......you haven't bought from Amazon, you have bought from a third party through or via Amazon. This carries a much higher risk than buying direct from Amazon or a reputable UK Company
* The fact that they have CE markings makes little difference to the warning......Many fakes have CE Marks which are easy to replicate.
* Made in China would not instill me with any confidence.
.......and yes there is plenty else you can do to reduce the risk of being sold a fake.

Re: Reusable water bottle
Real iPhone stuff (and most other tech) is made in China. They do have a rep for not regulating counterfeiters though
The stuff I buy VIA Amazon is from a registered UK company with a real address. What else do you recommend?

Re: Reusable water bottle
Just in case the supplier of your dodgy electronic item forgot the sticker, you can buy your own. You can even get holographic ones to add authenticity. They are readily available from UK suppliers but it seems more appropriate to get them from China, for example,

If it says made in the UK it is definitely fake!
