what to do with dates, and mixed fruit.

Tidying the larder I have once again come across a bunch of dates and mixed fruit that we've had for ages. years. The main reason we have them is because the wife doesn't like dates, and I'm not into foodstuffs that tend towards mixed fruit these days (low carb etc).

So - any ideas what to do with them? I've deliberately chosen this board rather than food because somebody might have a decent idea with what to do with them other than eat them ourselves.

Currantly (has! see what i did there!) I'm tending towards leaving them out for the birds...

Convert them into something you do like by composting them?

Birds probably wouldn't want to eat anything that sweet. Rodents might. :|

You can make wine from dates, but you'd need a kilo of them. Alternatively, I gather that some people make smoothies with them. A shot of brandy is a popular but optional extra.
