Disposing of Soltan Aftersun?
Searching in a cupboard for sunblock, we found a quarter full bottle of aftersun.
Neither of us has a clue when we last bought any and it could be as much as 10 years old, so we think that it should go out and a new bottle bought.
But, what to do with the contents?
As it says it is non greasy, and ISTR that to be the case, my first thought would be to add hot water, give it a good shake and pour it down the sink.
This worries Mrs S who thinks that we should pour it into a plastic bag and put it in the non recycleable waste.
Any ideas?

I thought that only applied to medicines?

What's the worst that can happen? The sewer gets an unexpected suntan.
Just tip it, and follow it down with a kettle of boiling water and a little bleach if you're worried. Since there's no obviously oily component, but rather an emulsion (I assume?), it shouldn't hurt the drains. Hardly the stuff of which fatbergs are made.

Ah, that was the SunScreen (before rather than after) and I think that I was dissuaded from pouring it, even though the test seemed OK to me.
I'd rather tip this lot into the drains, then I can recycle the plastic bottle.
Perhaps I'll do it while she's shopping, tomorrow

Are you sure the plastic bottle is genuinely recyclable?

If it hasn't become solid, can you not just use it up as a moisturiser and then put the empty in the plastic recyclable waste bin?

Have you considered that it might not really matter.......the Rainforsest is burning and we are all probably doomed. The end is nigh and one aftersun bottle isn't gonna make any difference to the final result.

You could rub it all over your body, then shower it off down the drain (or wash it off in the sea).

Since China stopped the imports most plastic is not going to be recycled, no matter what the council may think, they mostly haven't cottoned onto this yet.
So if the bottles going into landfill anyway it may as well have the suncream inside.

Even if stuff is not being recycled, in this country, at the moment it is to personal financial advantage to put stuff in the recycling, where it goes into storage bales, because it reduces the fines imposed on my council by the government and so helps to keep my council tax down.

Re: Disposing of Soltan Aftersun?
Any medical waste goes to an incinerator so I guess if your council uses an incinerator rather than land fill I guess it makes no difference. My doctors surgery uses separate bins for medical and general waste, but when I was changing my dressings I asked what to do, bag it and put in general waste was the answer.
