Roped up triangular thing in church?

#247852

Postby Slarti » August 29th, 2019, 4:14 pm

We've just finished watching Miranda Krestovnikoff's river walk program about the River Deben and towards the end she went into All Saints Church at Ramsholt.

Briefly shown, but not mentioned, there was what looked like a triangular bird house on a stand with, in the end, a piece of wood with 2 circular holes. In the holes was either a piece of rope looped through and through , or pieces of rope, finished off with decorative knots.

Anybody got any idea what this would be?

I found the item you described in the program - looks like a bible/book/reading stand of some description but no idea what the rope is for.

Having looked again, it does look a bit like that, so perhaps the rope is just a nautical type decoration with no Church significance.

See “Interior to W” where one can see the rope attached to material partially covering a lectern (if that’s the item you’ve described):

Sorry that I can only give you 1 rec as that is most certainly it, only we were seeing it from between the pews, and there was more/fancier cord. Or that was the impression I got.

Cheers
