Another Smart Meter query

I was just about to move our energy to EDF, however we may be moving next year and I wanted to see if there was a fee.

I couldn't find that info, however I did see buried in the T&Cs that we are required to have a smart meter fitted or the contract is ended and we are charged £35 per fuel. https://www.edfenergy.com/sites/default/files/r1269.pdf.

Is this standard across all suppliers now, or is there a list of those that don't have the requirement?

Yorkshire Energy, whom I have used for a year, don't have that requirement and you will probably find they are cheaper than EDF.

It's not exactly buried, it's one of the main bullet points in the first section.

Avro energy here. Cheapest FIX at the time last 2 years for here but no requirement for a smart meter ATM.

The requirement to have a smart meter is tariff specific. EDF presumably have other tariffs without this requirement. (The terms refer to the possibility of entering a different contract with them and the exit fee being waived)

Pure Planet. Have a smart meter if you want (SMETS2) or not. I did want one but the signal strength in my area (urban) is too weak to run the meters.

FYI my supplier (Bulb) says:

"First generation (SMETS1)
Currently, this type of meter can only be read by the installing supplier. But a planned, nationwide program of technical work starting in summer 2019 means we will be able to read these smart meters in the future. If you have a SMETS1 meter, we’ll let you know as soon as it becomes smart again. We expect to be able to read all first generation smart meters by the end of 2020, and so we are not planning on replacing these meters."
