Recycling compatible toner cartridges?

#257188

Postby bungeejumper » October 11th, 2019, 4:05 pm

Long, long ago, it was easy to get compatible printer cartridges accepted for recycling. You just took them down to PC World and put them in a bin at the checkout. But these days, everywhere I look seems to insist on OEMs only. Even charities are using third-party recyclers who are often sniffy about compatible cartridges. Can anyone recommend a recycler that isn't?

Apparently there used to be a national scheme for handling compatibles, but I gather it's collapsed. Of course, I do get it that there are likely to be issues in refilling cartridges if they differ slightly in physical ways. But even if the compatibles' only use is to be ground up for road surfaces, that would still be better than chucking them into landfill.

I have about thirty of the things. Any suggestions?

I have a recently refreshed stock of envelopes from Macmillan Cancer in which I post my cartridges to The Cartridge Recycling Centre in Thatcham.
They've said nothing about not sending compatibles. Which is what I send.
Hmmm.

Thanks very much, V8, I'll take a look into that.
