Followers on Photobucket.
For years, I used the Bucket as a means of posting photos on various third-party sites, car forums and the like, until Bucket threw a wobbly and made that impossible without a premium account.
Bucket have since relented, but I have got out of the habit and hevem't added any new photos for over a year.
Nevertheless, in recent months I have acquired a number of 'followers'.
This seems rather sinister.
Might they be scouting for valuables, for instance?
Any views?

Re: Followers on Photobucket.
They may be "bots" rather than real people.
I'd suggest NOT uploading photos that identify items of value attached to any data that might reveal your identity.

'Followers' on any social media may very well be 'bots. Something - likely a keyword - in your content triggers them to spam you by adding themselves as follower.

Ahh, thankyou.
Yes, that could well be. I notice that none of them has uploaded any content of their own.
OK, I won't worry about it, but it's a good point that we should be careful what we put out there.

Re: Followers on Photobucket.
is there an option in your account to deny others the chance to "follow" you?
or that you can block people etc?
(I really wouldnt know - i've never heard of photobucket before )

They were quite popular about 20 years ago and I had loads of pics on it to share with others. They didn't tell me when they changed their system and I only knew when I tried to log on one day, and nothing worked. Now with the greater awareness of security and privacy, I tend to think a bit more carefully before uploading pics to the web.

They havent relented, if you upload more pictures, the bandwidth limits are tiny, so in no time at all you will get another demand for £££
Im amazed Photobucket havent folded yet, its not just that they are asking for money but the dishonest bait and switch methods they use.
Why would anyone trust a company like that ever again?

Mmm, thankyou.
They served me well for years, Now I suppose I should look for another photo-sharing site. A reminder that the web is an ephemeral thing.

Imgur has been recommended on here and on TMF and I use it occasionally with no problems to date.
