Just got a voicemail on my work mobile.
The mobile didn't ring, it went straight to voicemail (odd...)
The voicemail was along the line of (names changed);
This is Peter Smith of #### Pinner- why do you keep phoning me and not leaving a message. It's really inconvenient.
The displayed number (020 842~~~~~~~) is easily found on Google, and it's alongside the name Peter Smith and #### Pinner address on a local history website for Middlesex
I have checked my phone log and (of course ) there are no calls to this number intentional or otherwise
Any ideas? I haven't called back of course. There is an email on the website alongside other details so tempted to use a 'spare' Gmail account to contact 'Mr Smith'

Don't.
If Peter Smith is a genuine person, someone is abusing his details, and the last thing he needs is more hassle.
If not, it'll do no good to anyone.

Re: Odd voicemail, cock up or scam..or what?
If someone is using his 'openly available' details why would they leave a voicemail (presumably spoofing his number) on my mobile
If I phone back, wouldn't it go to his landline ? To what end?
[the person who left the message was clearly a middle aged English male with a 'northern home counties ' accent]

Re: Odd voicemail, cock up or scam..or what?
In recent months I've noticed an increase in junk calls that appear to come from a mobile number (presumably spoofed). Could it be that he has received a lot of such calls where your number has been used as the spoof number? And that he is returning the call to find out what's going on?
Either way, I'd just ignore it.

I will probably sit on it, unless I get another one. I do actually work for the mobile company so any problems I will contact our Fraud and Security people

I have had no further messages , so perhaps they have stopped if he isn't answering, and have moved on to the next number in the list (either random or scraped from websites)
