Quarantine rules
So you’re coming back into the UK and now have to self-isolate for 14 days.
How does that affect the status of the people you’re coming back to stay with?

"If you’re at home or staying with friends or family, avoid contact with the people you’re staying with and minimise the time you spend in shared areas.

Re: Quarantine rules
If people go overseas on holiday for 1 week (or longer), and then have to self-isolate for a further 2 weeks upon their return, will that mean there will be pressure for increased holiday entitlements?!

Re: Quarantine rules
Looks like France is out of the question then. Seems there'll be a 14 day quarantine on arrival now. That makes 28 days quarantine on top of any time spent on holiday.

I thought I had seen an "EU says no story". In other words if the UK gives France a waiver from 14 day lockdowns, it would have to apply to the whole EU or perhaps just the Shengen area as the Republic of Ireland will already be exempt.

So presumably we could avoid quarantine if we come home via the Republic of Ireland?

What rules are the Republic applying?
It appears they are more or less copying the UK.

On the face of it they are more restrictive in also applying quarantine to visitors from Great Britain (but not Northern Ireland).

You need to be "isolated" from them, with a few practical measures with respect to "bathroom" use etc. If you aren't able to "self-isolate" your choice is find somewhere to "self-isolate", or you all "self-isolate" but together.
So, depending on how the "people you're coming back to stay with" can manage your self-isolation will determine their "status".

Just to add to this, their rules don't appear to apply to transit passengers according to

Meanwhile, Ireland's own coronavirus rules stipulate that travellers do not need to quarantine if they are getting an immediate connecting flight or bus into the UK.

But assume you are going to and from a country that does not require quarantine. Instead of flying from/to London you instead fly from/to Dublin. You then fly London-Dublin-London on a different ticket.
You would not actually be entering Ireland so its quarantine rules should not apply. You are merely transiting through the sterile zone of the airport.
And when you arrive back in the UK you are arriving from Ireland and so are exempt.
At least that is how I plan to get around this nonsense if it is still in place in July, which it may well not be since it is constantly changing anyway. I quite often transit through Dublin for other reasons.

Mike Wooldridge, founder of Flyaway Weekends, said: “We can see a real demand for short-notice travel once restrictions are slackened, and are already looking at offers that divert via Dublin

Re: Quarantine rules
All these questions are academic because all rules that The Bonkers Boris government invent can be interpreted in any way, depending on who you are. For instance, let's say the rules say that if you or someone in your household have C19 symptoms you should not leave your house. If you are a SPAD it is OK to drive 250 miles to deliver your child (who may also be infected) to other members of your family. Not so for the plebs.

Indeed the first 15 minutes of all news programmes devoted to the Dominic Cummins situation. I don't doubt that a good number of people stretched the government's lockdown guidelines including some of my neighbours. Interesting that the ongoing stream of illegal migrants being shepherded across the English Channel by the French navy and then taxi'd ashore by Border Force gets no coverage at all, (apart from Nigel Farage videos on facebook).
Also interesting when on a Radio 4 any questions type programme yesterday around 1.00pm, a caller answering questions about the government's introduction of a 14 day self-isolation period for new arrivals, actually asked the BBC why they weren't covering the stream of illegal migrants being escorted into UK waters by the French navy and then being taxi'd ashore by the British Borderforce. He got short thrift and was faded out when he came back to the subject a second.
It is a sad but true condemnation that the BBC and parts of the media have become very political and highly biased in their reporting.

Which parts of the media, in your opinion, are not "very political and highly biased in their reporting?"
