Fitbit, owners ID etc

#408649

Postby AleisterCrowley » May 1st, 2021, 7:37 pm

Couple of weeks ago I found a fitbit watch - broken strap
I posted on local facebook and Nextdoor page but no response. Looking at ads they seem to be quite expensive, so would like to get it back to its owner if possible. The TVP page on lost property basically said 'if you find something, ask around and try and find the owner' I think I'm supposed to hand in at a police station if no luck finding owner, but nearest is in Reading which is a bit of a trek.
It was 'working' when I found it, but low battery, and it's now flat. If I can charge it up is there a way to identify the owner from the watch setup? I'm assuming they link to a smartphone, or via a docking station to download data? Would the watch have an owner ID or similar?

Looking at my fitbit it doesn't look like there is anyway to identify the owner, it connects to my phone via bluetooth. There is though the option to factory reset it so at least it's possible for someone to use it rather than throw it away.

Down load the app and see if it gives you some previous routes to home?

I'd like to think it wouldn't be that easy to identify you though.

Maybe do what we see in all the pics, and pin an A4 piece of paper with FitBit in large letters to all the nearby lamp-posts? If the person dropped it in that vicinity, they're likely local. Just choose your mobile phone number with care. Or maybe an email address?

Yep, I tried that with a £20 note I found. Had loads of responses!
I suspect a £100+ Fitbit would elicit similar enthusiasm :-)

Maybe. But only one person is going to have a phone paired with the device.

I'd need to charge the damn thing, and then get the owner to show it was linked - which sounds like TMFT (too much flippin' trouble)

I feel you have already made it your mission in life to return this thing to its owner. :)

It's a challenge.
I used to like a challenge.
Now I'm just 'meh'..
