I see HMS Queen Elizabeth is returning to Portsmouth. Portsmouth is about a three hour drive from me. Does anyone know if it is possible to see the ship from any accessible place in Portsmouth. I would be happy to make the drive if I could be sure of a good view of the vessel.

I have no idea how the pandemic is affecting things currently, but really your best bet would be a harbour tour - this link gives you an idea and includes a phone number for enquiries:

If you know sailing times, you can get an excellent close up view of ships going in and out of the harbour mouth in Old Portsmouth, but I'm not sure it would be worth a 6 hour round trip!

Re: HMS Queen Elizabeth
You can see her when she is parked in Portsmouth, but not well. By far the best view can be had when she enters or leaves the harbour (the timings are usually posted on local newspapers web sites). If you go to Old Portsmouth and stand in the area of the Round Tower that is the best seat in the house. It's quite a sight.

PS - A harbour tour as previously suggested is also a good idea, if they are running

She was due to leave Sunday morning - but is now more likely to leave Saturday night

Re: HMS Queen Elizabeth
Many thanks to all who replied with advice and information. I don't think I am going to make it this time. Maybe she will come to Dover one day which is much closer and guarantees a good view. I did the harbour tour many years ago (30 ?) It all seems much more luxurious now.

As it happens the other two "Queens", i.e. the two Queen Elizabeth Class carriers, met each other at sea for the first time (I think ) just 2 days ago - https://twitter.com/RoyalNavy/status/13 ... 00930?s=20 and https://twitter.com/smrmoorhouse/status ... 01891?s=20 and probably lots of other links two, these are just 2 I found.
