Trading statement for the 52 weeks to 28th April 2019

Pub Company LFL sales for the 52 weeks to 28th April were up 2.9%, ahead of the market1 and reflecting the successful programmes in place to drive industry-leading value, service and quality for our customers. We saw good drink volume growth across Pub Company and, in particular, in our 1,000 drink-led Greene King local pubs, which recorded LFL sales of 4.6%. LFL sales for the last 16 weeks were up 2.4%.

Easter LFL sales were up 4.6% against last year's Easter weekend, helped by the good weather and particularly strong trading from Chef & Brewer, which recorded LFL sales of 15.3%.

Pub Partners LFL net income for the 52 weeks was up 1.6% while LFL profit was down 1.4%. In Brewing & Brands, total beer volumes were up 0.9% and own-brewed volumes were down 3.4% against a UK ale market2 down 4.2%.

So the reports on the various financial websites say that they beat market expectations; yet the shares are down 6.4% - bizarre.

Thanks peterh for posting this.
My sympathies must go out to Black Rock and GLG Partners who between them are shorting 3% of the company and any other undisclosed positions under .5%. :D :D :D

Q1 AND AGM TRADING UPDATE

At its AGM today, Greene King will make the following trading statement for the 18 weeks to 1 September 2019.

Like-for-like (LFL) sales in Pub Company grew 1.5% over the last seven weeks1 and, on a two year basis, were up 2.4%, demonstrating the continued momentum in Pub Company as a result of our ongoing focus on improving value, service and quality. LFL sales were down 1.8% for the first 18 weeks, reflecting the tough comparatives of last year's successful World Cup and good weather. On a two year basis, LFL sales for the first 18 weeks were up 1.0%.

For anyone who comes here looking for news about the takeover, but doesn't read the HYP Practical board, it has been discussed there. And while quite a bit of that long thread is doubtless HYP-specific, some is not, including my latest post. A brief summary is that the Scheme Document was published nearly a fortnight ago, the scheme is due to be voted on in meetings on Wednesday October 9th, the company deadline for proxy votes is Monday October 7th, and nominee brokers' deadlines for them are probably in this coming week.

The takeover will become effective on 30th Oct so presumably the cash will be received shortly after that.

Strangely used my shareholder voucher yesterday for the first time. There are 4 pubs within 3 miles in the scheme so will more than likely be using a few more.
Look forward to receiving cash and re-investing it.

If all goes as planned, the updated expected timetable is here https://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/market-news/market-news-detail/GNK/14270284.html which includes:

Despatch of cheques and crediting of CREST accounts with cash due within 14 days of the Effective Date

As a regular user of the shareholder food & drink vouchers, I have just booked my first hotel break using the shareholder discount code - it's called getting the most value out of the shares.....

I'm hoping that the new management create some kind of loyalty scheme to replace the shareholder scheme when it expires - I may well send an email to Bury St Edmunds.

Useful. Thanks.

Also from that linked document the other key bit is ...

In particular, please note that the Sanction Hearing has been scheduled for 29 October 2019 and the Effective Date of the Scheme is expected to be on 30 October 2019.

So if all goes as planned cheques/credits should be received by Wednesday 13th November.

I wasn't expecting this to go so smoothly and quickly. I hope nothing derails it because it will be nice to get this done and dusted, money in my nominee account, and move.
