Equally amazing is the discovery of coronavirus in sewage in Barcelona in March 2019 reported by Reuters. Squashed in the popular media as it doesn't fit the narrative, I guess. Same will happen to this I expect.

I got sick as a dog in October 2019 in Japan with what later turned out to be Covid-like symptoms. It was cold, cough and flu like, but also quite different from anything I had had before.

In early 2020 when Covid came into the news I wondered if that was what I had had, but dismissed it since all the reports at the time were that there was no evidence of the virus existing prior to December 2019, and then only in China.

I reckon there is a good chance this thing has been around longer than thought, but misdiagnosed. People were dying from what later became known as AIDS well before HIV was identified.

Having just watched the video, it raises a couple of immediate questions in my mind.

If the virus had been around in Italy since late August 2019, and presumably from bit earlier than that in China, why did it take so long to reach exponential growth in those places? The rapid increase in infections and deaths in those places was not until late 2019 and early 2020.

Cynically, I would also say that I think it not beyond the capability of the Chinese secret service to plant virus material in early samples from many places, in order to shift the blame away from the outbreak having occurred due to sloppy lab procedures in Wuhan.

Absolutely agree. I was skiing in France in Jan 2020 and flew through Geneva, not long after we got back me and a couple others came down with a raging fever and a dry cough which passed after a few days. Memorable as being one of the few times in my life i've ever had a proper full-on fever. None of us suspected covid at the time and officially the first cases in France and Switzerland were in February but if it walks like a duck...

Someone in my office had similar in October 2019, but heres the thing we had a small open office and normally when one person got a cold/flu it would spread to everyone else pretty quickly, but that didnt happen in 2019 perhaps because the victim stayed in bed for 2 weeks.

So as others have said, I think the early variants were not so easy to pick up.

I agree. My son came back from the US 16th December 2019, he then went down to what he thought was the worst flu he had ever had and was only really on the path to recovery by the 24th/25th, he kindly passed it to me. I took ill on the 26th, two days of shivering with aches and pain, throat infection followed, it seemed to be waning then the mother of all coughing for four days and nights (I ended up sleeping sitting in an armchair as lying down to sleep was impossible). I slowly started to mend around the 4th /5th January. I have only once had coughing like it in my life, that was a few years ago and needed antibiotics. Could have been nasty flu or maybe it was something else.

There were I believe (read) some blood tests taken in France circa October 2019 that have subsequently been found to have Covid traces, so earlier 2019 to me seems quite possible.

One could indeed.

It was Dubya who took his country out of the international bio-weapons treaty, so his labs are free of any international oversight. It was the US which had a particularly mad and virulently anti-chinese president who banged on about "china virus" just as he had about, for example, Obama's supposed birthplace. And it was the West in general who looked at the Wuhan outbreak and expected it - like the previous SARS - to be contained there, so it would be China alone that was damaged.

But that would be almost as far-fetched as Trump's version of it. Wouldn't it?
