Coleyfish
Sadly Coleyfish passed away last Tuesday morning. I am sure like me, many of you on this forum and previously on another place enjoyed his waspish humour and sharp wit. I approached Ian four years ago after reading many of his posts on TMF realising that this was the IFA I had always been looking for and needless to say he didn't let me down. He was head and shoulders above the many charlatans I have met over the decades when looking for professional advice and I will miss him greatly.
RIP Ian.

Re: Coleyfish
So sorry to hear that, Snowbadger, and thanks for the post. I also had contact with Ian pretty regularly - he was always a reliable source for a sharp-elbowed, sometimes slightly OTT comment whenever we needed one, and what a great guy. Underneath all the foaming outrage and the terrible spelling was somebody who believed passionately in the ethics of what he was doing. And what an eye for detail, too. God knows, the financial services trade needs more people like that.
RIP, Ian

Re: Coleyfish
Saddened and quite shocked to hear this. I'd wondered where he'd gone. He was a character and a lively contributor as well as obviously being a decent bloke. I didn't always agree with him but I still enjoyed his style and humour. Very sad.

Very sad to hear this. We sparred occasionally in the Other Place, but he was usually constructive, if obscure about his methods.

Thank you for informing us. I always found his views interesting and well thought through, even the ones I disagreed with.

No!
I am so very sorry.
I can count the Fools I truly liked, admired, respected and enjoyed on the fingers of one hand and Coley was absolutely there.
The knickers in Heaven will be beautifully ironed forever more.

Re: Coleyfish
Very sorry to hear this sad news. Thanks for letting us know snowbadger.
Coleyfish contributed some great posts over the years but I will remember him for his terrinble typig and the affectionate ribbing he was given after confessing to ironing his wife's knickers.
RIP Coleyfish

Re: Coleyfish
I'm very sad to read this, he was certainly an amusing and educational poster and he and I emailed occasionally.
Hopefully his family can be directed to see this thread and see that he made an impact.
RIP old fish face!

Only logged on because someone else alerted me to this
Definitely had some advice (I think it was DIY) from the gentleman on the old forum.
So, just letting the universe know I will notice his passing.

So sorry to hear this - part of my brain is wondering if the reports of his passing are just his most colourful typo yet.

Oh dear. We never got on as both too stubborn to give in, but I enjoyed the jousts. Somewhat sad that an IFA never got to enjoy his pension.

Re: Coleyfish
I was also sorry to hear this news. I enjoyed his independence of thought and his quirky posts.
But as he hadn't been a regular poster for some time he'd to some extent gone off my radar, and It made me realise how quickly we forget people who stop posting, even if they were once prolific and high quality posters.
It's quite sad to think that a fair number of Fools that were once massive contributors to TMF must also have died, but that their passing has gone unnoticed, or at least unremarked.
I often have the feeling that regular posters here are people I know personally. It does feel like a small community, and I can predict how individuals will react to a comment. They each have a distinct personality, and I have a mental image of them to the extent that I almost feel I'd recognise them if they were stood next to me in a pub.
But news like this is a reminder that generally we have absolutely no idea who our fellow posters are and that if one of us were to pop our clogs the chances are that nobody on LF would know. I think (maybe I'm wrong, and glad to be corrected) that personal relationships between posters are fairly rare, and the communication of the news by Snowbadger is very much the exception.
I'm not really sure whether this is a good or a bad thing. On the one hand I suppose I might be rather more cautious about expressing views if I knew they were being read by people who knew me personally. On the other hand the sort of humanity shown by snowbadger is only possible where there is a genuine community, as against one that exists solely in cyberspace.
Anyway, whatever the abstractions LF is certainly sufficiently real to me that I do feel a sense of loss, and I hope snowbadger will let Coley's family know how much affection he was held in by the rest of us.
