White marks on tiles - getting rid

#123879

Postby MrsRonnie » March 11th, 2018, 8:13 am

Morning all!

I have some wall tiles that have been sitting in the corner of the shed for 13 years or so. They're a matt finish and they have a white grid pattern on them which has transferred from the bottom of the tile on top of it. I'm not sure what the substance is on the back of a tile. I've tried spit, babywipes and washing up liquid so far, with no success.

The tiles are similar to this http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod989/za ... -tile.html

Any ideas of what the substance is, and how to get rid of it?

TIA

Ronnie

It's obviously the ceramic material from the tile that has been in contact. Try using vinegar and rubbing hard.

As they're Matt finish, also try a stiff cloth, or even a non-stick (white) washing up sponge, and some baking soda or toothpaste as a mild abrasive.

A plastic pan scourer will probably be abrasive enough to remove a deposit without scratching or marking the tiles.
