Re: Card Factory (CARD)
I added at 1.983p. Good yield, well covered, and fairly low P/E. They may take a while to get back to previous heights but so long as they keep paying out at this rate, I'm happy to wait.

Have a look at IG Design Group (IGR). The yield is lower is lower, but past growth much better and IMO prospects good to. One of my (few) 10-baggers.

I bought some this morning at 1.96 GBP, not sure why they’ve fallen today but i’m happy enough with the yield, debt position and operating margin to tuck some away

Nor mine. I topped up twice since the first drop and am losing on those as well.

Darn it, just got a quote at 203p. Well done, CJ. I may have been a bit slow. Maybe I'll try a limit buy order.
Glad that I didn't. <10% today @ CARD @190p. I seriously misjudged this one. I was 24% up and held out for 25%. Big mistake. I need to look what my break even is on this one and see if I can get my money back soon. Recovery, which is what I bought for, could be a way off perhaps. Not one of my better decisions, this one.
Never get emotionally involved with a shore. If its not worked out for you as expected, dump it.
Always look at all buying decisions as if you'd never bought any before. you shouldn't care about your breakeven price. Its either a sound business that you think will rise, or its a dog. Its never a "hang on in there until you get your money back" like a gambler putting just one more bet on the 100-1 outsider.

Agreed. I have not topped up, but to be clear, that is down to a desire to avoid becoming too heavily weighted in a single stock, rather than any concern about CARD's performance as a business. Considering the serious pressures on the UK retail sector at the moment, I thought the trading statement was about as good as could be expected, particularly given a reasonably tough year-earlier like-for-like sales comp (+3.1%).

From ADVFN's morning bulletin today:
"Card Factory was a big faller after it was cut to ‘sell’ at Berenberg." I have also read that Peel Hunt have downgraded it to "reduce".

I agree with you JD. I see no reason to panic. One thing that strikes me about CARD is that even in the small town where I live, they have two outlets (*)..surely they could trim this?
(* as does Greggs)

Have you ever asked them why they don't, Mon? It does seem a bit excessive in the circs.

Re: Card Factory (CARD)
CARD's interims are out, and at first glance it looks like a bit of a mixed bag. The special divi is 5 pence a share - in other words, at the bottom of the range projected beforehand by the company. On the other hand, CARD is sticking to its profit forecast this time and not guiding lower.

Taking the current very tough conditions for store-based UK retailers into consideration, the results struck me as being about as good as could be expected. CARD's operating profit rose 18%; the underlying business seems to be performing well (i.e. record sales for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day ranges); the company seems to have stopped guiding profit expectations lower for now, and I hope in the longer term as well; and the fact that a store-based UK retailer is paying a special dividend at all in the current circumstances is positive, ISTM.

Re: Card Factory (CARD)
Agreed. It's those current conditions which are making life difficult for all retailers and having a disastrous effect on my p/f.
However, I've just read that Next's figures are better and its s.p. is up over 8% today, with increases in some other retailers as well, but the market isn't doing CARD any favours.

Re: Card Factory (CARD)
So they're continuing to pay out a special dividend while increasing their debt? I don't get it.
