Broadband Deals
Hi Guys,
My £25 monthly PlusNet contract has come to an end (38mb unlimited) and about to increase to £38.
I've seen a similar deal from BT for 18 months that costs £30 and includes BT Sport for a while.
Any better deals than that?
Thanks in advance,
HYD

Re: Broadband Deals
Aren't Plusnet offering unlimited 36Mb fibre for £23.99 at the moment?
BT are offering 50Mb for the equivalent of £24.50 once you take into account the £100 gift card - https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/broadband/deals/ plus possibly more if you combine with the cashback sites.
In addition with BT they are bound to put the price up again soon so you can leave and keep the £100 (and if you fancy, bounce your line and phone number through Vodafone thanks to their no quibble 30 day satisfaction guarantee, back to BT as a new customer and pick up another deal). I haven't paid BT anything this year so far.

Yep. But that's for NEW customers.
I'm already a customer so that deal is not available to me. Which is why I need to negotiate.

So just tell them if they don't offer you the same as a new customer you will be an ex customer! Most companies are not that stupid they would to let a customer walk away (Saga car insurance is an exception, so I cancelled and signed back up as a new customer and got the cheaper price plus £30 cash back - idiots).

Rarely works that way AF62. They will offer you a deal but it's rarely as good as a new customer deal. And why should it be?
To be honest, I don't want to keep changing providers every year, so i'm willing to give Plusnet £30 this year, versus £25 last year, but I suspect they will be silly about it, which will mean that I end up moving to another provider.

Re: Broadband Deals
Depends how serious you are I suppose.
I signed up to BT on a £30 a month deal with £150 kick back earlier this year. With a couple of months credit when I complained they slightly delayed installation I haven't paid anything so far.
A few weeks ago they sent me a letter telling me some obscure type of call was increasing* in cost and I could cancel my 18 month contract.
I called them up to cancel and was asked "what can we do to retain you as a customer". Cheaper price was the answer.
Straight away they offered £23.99. No haggling, no "I can get this from X, Y, or Z". Just a cheaper price for asking.
*I don't even have a phone plugged in so can't make any of these increased cost calls anyway!

Coincidentally I was this minute looking at my email where I summarised what I did with BT in June 2017 when our then 12 month deal was up (albeit max 17 Mb):
Worth a few minutes on the landline to BT 0800 800 150.
Broadband and line rental for the last year was £96 per quarter (net of the 12 month discount).
Broadband and line rental was to be £123 per quarter.
They quoted at £93 per quarter.
I said the new customers headline was £90 per quarter (plus £10 set up fee).
They spoke to a "supervisor" and I was quoted £81 per quarter for a 24 month contract.
Thereafter reverts to £123 per quarter before which we'll need to call them.
Took it.
Probably paying over the odds but, like you, I couldn't be bothered to change supplier and a reduction on the previous "discounted" contract was worthwhile.

Re: Broadband Deals
£81 a quarter so £27 a month for standard broadband! No wonder they offered a 24 month contract.

That might be the case (I mentioned we were probably paying over the odds) and I'd forgotten we were on LBYM.
The point of my reply was to encourage HYD to contact his existing provider and see where that gets him, as initially he felt this wouldn't assist. Like him, I can't be bothered with comparison websites on such relatively trivial matters and I went for 24 months to save my time for more productive things.
If we need an enhanced service come June 2019 that option is available.

I am paying £33 per month for unlimited 40M Sky fibre, line rental and all UK phone calls including to mobiles.
TV is extra but half the standard price.
Recent email says the deal will continue for another year.

Two years ago I got a very good deal with Plusnet on a 24 month contract that has just expired. I rang them last week and told them what I wanted and pointed out a couple of ads where they were giving £60 and the £75 Cashback to new customers.
I didn't get what I suggested, they gave it to me even cheaper. Signed up for another 24 month fixed contract.
This is for Unlimited Fibre Broadband: £11.99 per month (for 24 months); 38-40Mbps with a guaranteed 32Mbps.
Talk to them, they are very amenable and the guys on the phone can make the decisions, they don't have to refer it.
I also took the opportunity to renew my line saver agreement which saves 13% on standard line rental costs.

So you are paying £16.50 for line rental on top of the £11.99 for broadband, £28.49 a month whilst they are offering the same to new customers for £23.99.
I suppose paying £108 extra over the contract isn't an awful lot, but I wouldn't be happy.
