Re: MP3 from YouTube
I'm sure there's many ways to skin this cat, but my method is:
--kiloran
- Use "1-click YouTube Video Downloader on Firefox to create an MP4 file
- Use Freac Portable https://portableapps.com/apps/music_vid ... c_portable to convert MP4 to MP3

Re: MP3 from YouTube
Thank you - this isn't actually for me, but a friend who said he hadn't worked out how to do it yet but knew it was possible.
I can't see anything in that thread about YouTube though?
I am, myself, in the process of trying to access my ancient itunes account and download the 83 songs I have in it to a playable format, since I have nothing Apple. This is confusing enough for me, that thread keeps saying "oh, just buy them in itunes and download to MP3' - yeah.....but how!?
Anyway, for that part I've not even got into the old account yet, in fact it's taken me three attempts to even download itunes to my PC.

About three-quarters down my post on that thread, there's two URL links where either will convert a Youtube URL into an MP3 file.
The link opens on my browser at my post with the two conversion links in, but here they are if you're having trouble spotting them -
https://vubey.yt/
https://listenvid.com/

Re: MP3 from YouTube
Ta, I have sent all of those to him, I'm sure he'll work it out from there.
Meanwhile I have logged into the old itunes account, all my old tracks are there, and I have downloaded isyncr, so am about to try to merge the two and get all those songs onto my Android phone.

Re: MP3 from YouTube
I usually download the video. You can do this with nothing more than VLC media player and your browser.
In VLC use 'Media > Open network stream...' ( Ctrl+N ) and paste in the url of the Youtube video. When it starts to play just pause it. Now use 'Tools > Codec information' ( Ctrl+J ). At the bottom is a 'Location' box, right-click on it and 'Select all', then copy and paste it into the address bar of your browser (I find IE works best for this). The browser asks where you want to save the file. Some may play the video instead, if yours does the try IE.
I use the command line FFMpeg utility to convert any video format into any other. It can also take a video as an input and output the audio to an mp3 file.
http://ffmpeg.org/
Or if I can't be bothered and just want to record the audio of anything playing in my browser, I open Audacity with the recording device set as my speakers, then hit the record button. Stop recording when done then use 'File > Export audio...' to save to a file.

Re: MP3 from YouTube
I only recently noticed that youtube have a premium version that not only gives acces to all songs on youtube (i think it pretty much rivals spotify), but it also allows you to download and watch/listen offline. May be the eaiest and quickest option.

You know this is something I have always wondered how to do but never found out. How do I set the recording device to my speakers, please? The only options appear to be sysdefault, mic or line. Thanks.

Re: MP3 from YouTube
WADR to your friend they hadn't tried very hard before bothering you!
I just googled "mp3 from youtube"
The very first hit is a online ripper and there are pages of other hits for similar sites and options etc.
I tested the first two - both fine.
cheers

To be fair, we could all use Google for many of the types of questions asked on this board, but I think one of the best things about being a member of such a diverse on-line community such as this is that there's a very good chance that one of us will have specific experience in many of the types of areas that people often want help with, and that we can often add really good value to the sorts of answers we might be able to help with.
I will often find that individual experience will be much more valuable than the top Google hit, especially in areas that I know are well covered by people on these boards, and long may that continue...
Cheers,
Itsallaguess
