Doctor Who

#172252

Postby Nemo » October 8th, 2018, 12:22 pm

Unlike most of this morning's newspapers I didn't rate the new Doctor. Thought she was totally out of her depth with a poor plot - some intergalectic villain who stuck his victims' teeth into his head

Whilst it may take Jodie Whittaker a few episodes to 'grow' into the part - clearly she is a good enough actor to succeed - the rest of the cast are unfortunately not very gifted. Burdened with a plodding script, this first episode of the new series was a severe disappointment in this household. For once, ITV saved the night with the final episode of Vanity Fair - a truly original and entertaining adaption of the book.

I have watched and loved Doctor Who since the age of 4. I even have them all on DVD - yes all. (except the missing episodes)

My view on last night?
Crap.

Chris Chibnall can't write Doctor Who - good at crime but lousy at sci fi. His dialogue was woeful.
Jodie Whittaker can't act - she was dreadful.
The script was like something from CBBC. Woeful.
I didn't like the tick box diversity casting either. Older white man, Pakistani girl, black guy, female lead role, disability (but it's clear they don't 'get' what dyspraxia actually is). Were these really the best actors they could find?

They need to up their game - shouldn't be difficult.

Okay.

That was the first Dr Who for a few years where I never felt the urge to pick up a book or a device because I was bored.

Perhaps it was just our household, but we got a few laughs out of it and it introduced the new cast.

Only bad thing, for me, was that Grandma won't be in future episodes.

Not too good all. Plot was weak, acting poor, tokenism rife. I was looking forward to seeing the lead role played by a woman, no problem with that and I hope that she gets into her stride as the series progresses

I enjoyed it. Funny in parts and they did have to introduce a whole new set of characters so guess they didn't throw their best storyline at it.

I agree with most of the posts on here. The story was very weak and the acting somewhat stifled. One thing I did notice was that Dr Who used to be produced in Cardiff by BBC Wales. The new one didn't have that ident, but some other production company. Maybe it's too many changes all at once that's the problem - new scriptwriter(s), new cast & new production. I'll give it a chance though and tune in for the next few episodes.

I am sure all will be fine once she gets some nice cushions for the tardis.

7 responses before we get a sexist statement about the new Dr Who - not bad for most places but fools - please.

Episode 1
Introduction to new Dr, OK.
Episode 2
Introduction to new tardis. Lots of running, A bit of shooting. For me great looking sets. Shame about the script and story. Dull and predictable. Hope it improves.

My worry is that it won't.
Chibnall just isn't in the same league as Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat when it comes to writing.
A bit of an odd choice as the showrunner for the BBC's biggest seller...

Don't bother i don't think terminal7 has a sense of humour. It must be an alien life form.
